Warhammer 40k: Darktide details its new crafting system

In Warhammer 40k: Darktide, players will have access to the Shrine of the Omnissiah, which is a forge where weapons found on killing sprees can be improved.

There are five things you can do at the Shrine: Consecrate, Earn Blessing, Combine Blessings, Re-Bless, and Refine Item. At the moment, only Consecrate is available.

The Fatshark developers also talked about how they plan to follow up their last game, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, with Warhammer 40K: Darktide:

We expect that by now you have either used or heard about Consecration, the first Darktide crafting feature you can use. We also hope that this blog gives you an idea of the bigger crafting system(s) and how much you can change your weapons and loadout to fit your play style. At the heart of this is the Blessing extraction and Re-Blessing feature, which lets you collect and swap Blessings to make different combinations of weapons that you want to try out.

We’ve learned a lot from our past decisions and gameplay in the Vermintide series when it comes to crafting. For Darktide, we wanted to use what we learned to expand and improve crafting so that it became a key part of player progression and gave you, the player, more impact and control over how you play.

We are trying to make sure that the crafting system in Darktide doesn’t have the randomness or repetition that is sometimes a part of crafting. As you look for the best mix of melee and ranged weapons for your class, you will have to make important decisions based on strategy and goals.

Also, the way you get crafting materials in Darktide is completely different from how you got them in the Vermintide series. We decided to put these items right into missions as rewards for exploring and for completing some specific goals. We think it fits with the game’s theme for players to find these things in the world, so keep your eyes open. Both Plasteel and Diamantine can be found in small and large caches.

Crafting will be added slowly over the course of the month of December, and there are plans to make it even better in the future.

Warhammer 40k: Darktide will be available on Windows (via Steam) on November 30. The Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions will follow soon after.
