A “cornerstone” for future Sonic games, Sonic Frontiers will set the standard for the series.

From what it looks like on Steam and in reviews, Sonic Frontiers has done pretty well since it came out. This is good for Sega because they said it would be the “cornerstone” of future Sonic games.

Takashi Iizuka, who is in charge of Sonic Team, talked to Sector about where the franchise is going. He said that Sonic Frontiers was like the famous Sonic Adventure, which put the hedgehog in 3D at a time when the gaming industry was changing a lot.

“The goal for Sonic Frontiers was the same as it was for Sonic Adventure: to make a game that would be the foundation for future Sonic games.” Iizuka said this, and he also had respect for the long-running game series’ history.

He also said, “It’s a completely new approach for the series, but we’ve been careful to stay true to Sonic’s roots. The game still needs to feel like a Sonic game.”

Since the first game came out in 1991, more than 30 years ago, there has been a lot going on with the franchise. Two live-action movies about him have done very well, and a third is already in the works.

In the meantime, the Netflix show will be out soon, and Paramount+ is making a live-action show that will come out sometime in 2023.
